Snapshot 9 April'12

A still-view of my room @ 9 April 2012 11.00pm. Monday night. I'm at the 28th of 29 weeks doing my practical at Altera Corporation. Final visit from the supervisor's this Friday the 13th and thus the work on the screen and the 'diary' on the table. To remind me what I need to do. A new thing, the diary. Not used to it at all but I need it because I can't remember all the things that I need to get done and my phone is too tedious to type on. Also, I need a place to write down my circumference progressions and how much I have and am willing to spend on future supplements hah. There are the birthday 'red packets' all over the table and in the box so that I don't have to withdraw from the atm (when I get cashless).

Over on the left side of the shelf is the eye lubricant because my right eye still gets very dry due to sports and mother injury. My two graphic design books, one sitting on top of another flatter graphic design book. I now have three of them, all by Page One. My scrolls are rolled up against the wall. There in front of the printer is the Men's Health Malaysia magazine which is unbelievably engrossing. My Buffalo HDD is in its case there but I hardly even use it now, and I don't know why it's at that forefront place.

Sitting diagonally behind me is a pile miscellaneous books and magazines and newspapers. The four books on top I got using the 1M book vouchers not long ago, the stack of magazines are from the PFS library courtesy of my mum. NatGeo and can't-remember-what. I like NatGeo. Somewhat. There's the James Herriot book about his 'Yorkshire Tales' which my mum swears by, but is (unsurprisingly) uncompelling. At least not compelling enough. The newspaper pullout above all is the Star Rev pullout containing the prices of new cars of all the models sold in Malaysia. That 'yes' brochure is the 4G internet thing I inquired about, as I think it's time I got myself an internet connection in my hostel. Finally there's the MAXX gloves with wrist support that I just recently bought. (I displaced my ligament in my right wrist and I was told (with great despair) not to lift for at least a 4 week period to let it rest and heal). Gone already my mid-year goal of having an 18-inch circumference.

Also, there was The Edge newspaper from yesterday sitting on top of the whole stack of what-reads but I just took them downstairs. Am quite disappointed with the Edge as they seem to (in broad daylight) neglect Penang in their publishing. Again, no surprise.

Till the next snapshot of my life in the free world..

An Eagle

You have an advantage. You're an eagle. You can fly at heights to which no other birds can soar.

Crows love to pester eagles. The eagle is much larger, but the crow is more agile so it can turn and maneuver more quickly. At times the crow will come up behind the eagle and dive-bomb the big bird. But the eagle knows this secret: It can fly at altitudes that the crow cannot fly, as high as twenty thousand feet.

So instead of bothering with the crow and its squawking, the eagle simply rises higher and eventually the crow is left behind.

Big bird is here

Wow, I'm genuinely impressed with the new livery. Got to give it up to the management for this. I must say, it's the best design of all the planes of the same model that are out. The towering text, steamy blue ribbons, yes, steamy. And they had to change the logo to all-blue. Nice job, really. Turns me on. The red and blue ribbon design would have been a total eyesore. I have a feeling that our Thai counterpart would be equally impressive in their turn. Speaking of airplanes, I got a real bad dose of an 'airplane' case from a friend yesterday. Nearly punched a hole in the floor (but I did abs exercises in the end). Anyway, I'll cut the crap and show you the image. Till next time.

Oh therapy, can you please fill the void

I guess I've lost most of my readers now, that I've not been writing here for a very long time. Problem is, I can't write, now, tonnes of ideas, just no flow, I'm not a writer. Guess I'm not spending enough time reading. I read but mostly business, property or economic material. Shrinking of the right brain. I've started James Herriot and The Hobbit though. James Herriot's from my mother.

I changed the name of my blog again. I really don't know why I always change it though. Probably because of the mood or feel, or just instability of thought. Stable, and yet unstable, at the same time. Right now it's karboter, a name I coined up back in '03 or '04, as a name for the Kingston thumb drive I had, 512mb and back then it was big. I use the name more often than not now, mostly because of its uniqueness, no one's used it. Unique New York. Anyway I really hope the name of this blog will stick, as I try to settle down. I don't like changes, and yet I can't wait for change. It's possibly anxiety. I frown as I write this.

Last Thursday I went for the healing mass. I don't know if there's something wrong with my mind. I hope not, I hope I'm just blinded, and my mind will clear. I go to the gym now, to find therapy. Right, I'll stop now. Till next time.

The 4 PR states RM25 billion investments

My uncle at LGE's 51st birthday

Speech by Lim Guan Eng whilst campaigning for the PAS candidate in the Tenang By-Election on Tuesday, 25th January 2011 at 8 pm:

The 4 PR states RM25 billion investments have beat the other 10 BN states attracted 53% of Malaysia's total investments of RM47.2 billion in 2010

The 4 PR states of Penang, Selangor, Kedah and Kelantan have beat the other 10 BN states by attracting RM25 billion in investments comprising 53% of Malaysia's total investments of RM47.2 billion in 2010. For the first time in history, Penang is now the new champion of investments in Malaysia, coming out top in 2010.

Penang replaced the previous 2009 champion Sarawak by recording RM 12.2 billion in 2010 as compared to Sarawak RM3.9 billion. Penang was No. 4 in 2009 with RM 2.1 billion but shot up 5 times to No.1. On the other hand Sarawak went down from No.1 in 2009 with RM 8.5 billion to No. 4 with RM3.9 billion in 2010. Penang's success in drawing in RM12.2 billion is an extraordinary vote of confidence by both foreign and local investors in the PR state government of Penang.

The No.2 state after Penang is another PR state of Selangor with RM 10.6 billion in investments. In fact the 4 PR states of Penang, Selangor, Kedah and Kelantan combined comprise RM 25 billion investments or 53% of the total investments in Malaysia of RM47,177 million in 2010. These 4 PR states alone can beat the remainder 10 states of BN Malaysia combined!

Despite the financial constraints and limitations imposed by BN, PR have shown our good governance. In Penang we have excelled by being praised by the Auditor-General Report for being the best financially managed state with record surpluses of RM88 million in 2008 and RM77 million in 2009. Penang became the first state government in history to be commended by Transparency International for CAT(Competency, Accountability and Transparency) governance in establishing integrity in leadership.

We have wiped out hard-core poverty, the first state to do so in Malaysia. We are giving senior citizens RM100 every year and when they die, their beneficiaries a one-off RM1,000/-. All partially assisted schools of Chinese,Tamil and Sekolah Agama Rakyat are given a fixed sum of at least RM11.3 million every year. We are working towards a wifi state offered free of charge.

Penang is going green and leading in green practices such as "No Free Plastic Bag" campaigns and waste treatment through 3R of Reduce, Reuse Recycle. Penang enjoys the cheapest water rates in the country. Penang is also the Silicon Valley of Malaysia and selected as the most livable city in Malaysia on par with Kuala Lumpur. We have done more in 3 years what BN fail to do in 51 years.

So who says that PR can not govern. We may not have the experience but neither do we have the experience to cheat or be corrupt. PR has proven that a clean government can outperform corrupt governments. Voters of Tenang should choose PR that offers a better future not only for you but for your children.

PR is the better choice because we embrace the future. We embrace the future by embracing each and every one of you whether Malays, Indians, Chinese, Kadazans and Ibans as Malaysian brothers and sisters, Malaysian sons and daughters. Let us grow together, learn together and enjoy the success together.

*Lim Guan Eng, Penang Chief Minister & DAP Secretary General

What are the best bands for a workout?

I just love this MCR hoodie. Shipping's $8 I think to the US. Anyone kind enough to help me buy it and bring it back to Malaysia? Hehe.

MCR's probably the best band for down times. Perfect band to get you swinging again. Works all the time. Paramore comes next.

Green Day, Linkin Park n A7X are the best bands for workouts. Keeps you so motivated. Hahah.

Black Eyed Peas pumps you up for Thursday or Friday or Saturday nights or Ladies Nights.
